TORAH LEADERSHIP AWARD

MR. AND MRS. YOSEF POLINSKY

When the owner of a successful dental practice devotes many hours each day to Torah learning, it is immediately clear where his true values and passions lie. When he centers his entire home around Torah—actively involving his children in his love of learning, it is evident that he understands the true meaning of success, both in chinuch and in life.

At the end of his high school years, Yosef recognized Toras Moshe was the premier post–high school yeshiva, which was precisely the experience he was seeking. His years there, from 1998 to 2000, learning in the shiurim of Rabbi Abramowitz and Rabbi Twersky hy”d, strengthened his identity as a ben Torah. Those formative years instilled within him the values of hasmadah and a lifelong commitment to continual growth—principles that would shape the rest of his life.

Yosef describes Toras Moshe as a healthy and joyful environment, one that strikes a thoughtful balance between intensity and enjoyment—a balance he has since learned to implement in his own life. Beyond shaping his Torah learning, Toras Moshe has deeply influenced the regesh of his home as well. The zemiros sung at his Shabbos table are melodies from his yeshiva years, and even his nusach for Kiddush reflects what he heard at Toras Moshe.

His rebbeim remain a constant presence in his life. He regularly studies Rabbi Abramowitz’s sefer, Pri Yehuda, at his Shabbos table, and a portrait of Rabbi Twersky zt”l hy”d—gifted to him by his wife for his 40th birthday—hangs in his study, serving as a continual source of inspiration and a reminder of his rebbi’s profound avodas Hashem and ahavas haTorah.

In the years following yeshiva, Yosef developed an even deeper personal connection with his rebbeim, particularly Rabbi Abramowitz. He attributes this to attending the annual Toras Moshe dinners and, more significantly, to his own efforts to maintain regular contact. Today, he treasures that close kesher, calling and visiting when possible.

After his years at Toras Moshe, Dr. Polinsky attended Yeshiva University and subsequently earned his dental degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ, now Rutgers). Following his marriage to Esther Handelman of Riverdale, the couple lived in Washington Heights, Passaic, and later on moved to Lakewood, where they currently live with their eight children. The Polinskys are deeply involved in their community—both on a personal level and through their local dental practice, Polinsky Dentistry,

Despite his many responsibilities, Torah learning has always remained Dr. Polinsky’s primary focus—a commitment powerfully reflected in his recent siyum haShas. This milestone represented the culmination of decades of dedication, discipline, and a steadfast resolve to set goals and progress from one siyum masechta to the next.

Always striving to grow in his learning, he works hard to set goals and maximize his sidrei limud. Today, he has multiple daily sedarim learning and reviewing the daf  and other limudim with his chavrusas. This intense devotion has not only transformed his own connection with Torah, but has also profoundly impacted his family, elevating their home into one that is entirely Torah-centered.

Dr. Polinsky turned his recent Siyum Hashas into a double simcha. Two and a half years ago, he commissioned a sofer to write a Sefer Torah, timing its completion to coincide with this momentous milestone. The combination of a hachnasas Sefer Torah and a Siyum Hashas created a truly unforgettable celebration of Torah. Yosef was excited to share this experience with his Toras Moshe Rebbeim. He was moved when the Rosh Yeshiva and Rabbi Naftali Meiselman joined him at his siyum.

Yet the most powerful moment of all came as he recited the hadran—declaring that he’d accomplished something he’d invested so much of himself in and davening to the Rebono Shel Olam that he be given the opportunity to continue to learn and understand on greater levels each day.
